Officially Submitting My Application to the East Texas Branch of the WDNC Club
Dear Melani (and all my fellow midlife warriors),
This is my official submission to join the WDNC Club — East Texas chapter.
I don’t know if there’s a form, a handshake, or a secret password (although if there is, I’m hoping it’s “Where’s my fan?” while digging in a purse full of snacks, HRT, and half-read books).
But I’ve been watching you. Laughing with you. Nodding along so hard I almost gave myself whiplash.
And I’m ready to say it out loud:
I, Brandy of Mabank, Texas, hereby declare — We. Do. Not. Care.
But let me be clear:
It’s not that we don’t care about life.
We care deeply about our people, our peace, our health, and our hard-earned joy.
What we don’t care about anymore?
✖️ What society thinks a “woman of a certain age” should wear, say, or weigh.
✖️ Whether someone thinks we’re “too old” to be on TikTok or in skinny jeans.
✖️ Whether our gray roots are showing, our thighs are touching, or our boundaries make someone uncomfortable.
Because this stage of life? It’s not about shrinking — it’s about expanding.
Expanding our courage.
Our honesty.
Our laughter.
And sometimes… our waistband. But that’s another post.
Melani, thank you for giving us a space to roll our eyes, reclaim our voices, and remind each other that this is what power looks like.
Hot flashes, facial hair, and all.
So if there's a club meeting, count me in.
If there’s a t-shirt, I want it in a 2X with room for snacks.
And if there’s a movement — I’m already marching.
Midlife isn’t the end of caring.
It’s the beginning of caring about the right things.
